Prof.Dr. C. Aul (Duisburg, Germany): He is member of the German Competence Network „acute and chronic leukemias“ and is currently Head of the department of hematology and oncology at St. Johannes Hospital in Duisburg. His primary fields of interest in hematology are myelodysplastic syndromes and leukemias.
Prof.Dr. P. Bernasconi (Pavia, Italy):
Prof.Dr. C. Bernasconi (Pavia, Italy): Chairman of the Italian Registry of Myelodysplastic Syndromes (RISMD). He coordinates with Dr Mario Cazzola the Pavia MDS research group. This research group focuses on mechanisms of apoptosis, diagnostic tools (multicolour flowcytometry, clonal analyses, methylation studies), translational molecular studies (iron metabolism, mitochondrial ferritin studies) and it participates in various clinical protocols.
Prof.Dr. B. Bowen (Dundee, UK): Head dept. Hematology, Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. He coordinates the regional MDS registry, including a tissue bank. He has created the first European registry from an unselected population. Chairman of the Dundee MDS research group which focusses on translational molecular studies.
Prof.Dr. T. Büchner (, Germany):
Prof.Dr. M. Cazzola (Pavia, Italy): Prof. of Hematology at the University of Pavia Medical School. Reseach contribution on erythroid marrow function in anemic patients, genetic disorder of iron metabolism and their molecular basis, and the pathogenesis of myelodysplastic syndromes. Editor in Chief of Haematologica/Journal of Hematology.
Dr. J. Cermak (Prague, Czech Republic):
Prof.Dr. P. Fenaux (Paris, France):
Prof.Dr. A. Ganser (Hannover, Germany):
PD Dr. N. Gattermann (Düsseldorf, Germany): University of Düsseldorf. Current research: Biological significance of mitochondrial DNA mutations in MDS.

Coordinator of the molecular studies for the EORTC AML and MDS trials (AML-12, AML-17 and MDS-CRIANT studies). Head of reference laboratory. Chairman for the Dutch-Belgian-Swiss Network for molecular diagnostics in hemato-oncology in which all Dutch and various Belgian and Swiss centers participate.
P. Klener (Prague, Czech Republic):
Prof.Dr. M. Lübbert (Freiburg, Germany): Molecular mechanisms of normal myeloid differentiation and differentiation in acute myeloid leukemias, the characterisation of human hematopoietic stem cells, clinical studies on therapy with demethylating substances in myelodysplastic syndromes and myeloid leukemias.
