Prof.Dr. M. Baccarani (Bologna, Italy): Chairman of the Italian Cooperative Study Group on CML, which has been continuously active for more than 25 years and has run a number of clinical studies and trials which have been published in peer-reviewed journals, including chemotherapy, conventional and non conventional, splenectomy, interferon, autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation, interferon and low dose arabinosyl cytosine and imatinib. Prof. Baccarani has an international reputation for long term studies on treatment and prognosis of CML.
F. Guilhot (Poitiers, France): President of the French CML-Study Group. International recognition for his long term studies on Interferon-alpha alone and in combination with AraC in CML.
Prof.Dr. R. Hehlmann (Heidelberg, Germany): see Network Coordinator
PD Dr. A. Hochhaus (Heidelberg, Germany): Klinikum Mannheim of the University of Heidelberg. International recognition for his work on imatinib resistance and detection of minimal residual disease in CML. Conduction of phase I/II trials investigating new drugs and drug combinations in CML. Co-Lead of the German Competence Network “Acute and chronic leukemias”.
Prof.Dr. B. Simonsson (Uppsala, Sweden): Head Dept Hematology. Chairman of the Scandinavian CML-Study Group. International reputation for treatment intensification and autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation in CML.
G. Baerlocher (, Switzerland):
Prof.Dr. M. Boogaerts (Leuven, Belgium):
PD Dr. T. Brümmendorf (Hamburg, Germany):
Prof.Dr. F. Cervantes (Barcelona, Spain): Associate Professor, Hematology Department, University of Barcelona. Co-founder and member of the Writing Committee of the International CGL Prognosis Study Group. Member of the International Workshop on Myeloproliferative Diseases. Member of the Writing Committee of the group “International Collaboration on Transplantation in Agnogenic Metaplasia with Myelofibrosis”.
Prof.Dr. A. Colita (Bucarest, ): Director of the Department of Hematology, University of Medicine.
Dr. J.J. Cornelissen (Rotterdam, Netherlands): Coordinator of the Dutch CML-Group.
PD Dr. T. Fischer (Mainz, Germany): The applicant is actively pursuing clinical and molecular research using selective tyrosine kinase inhibitors in hematologic and oncologic malignancies. A variety of early phase II protocols were initiated and combine molecular endpoints with clinical endpoints. This approach will define molecular criteria of sensitive patient populations and will provide important information for the design of future clinical trials using molecularly targeted therapies.
C. Gambacorti-Passerini (, Italy):
Prof.Dr. J.M. Goldman (London, UK): Chairman of the Department of Hematology, Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College London. Original demonstration of stem cells in the blood of CML patients. Longstanding experience with allogeneic and autologous stem cell transplantation for CML. Pioneer in treating relapse after allografting with donor lymphocytes. The prognostic value of MRD monitoring for the BCR-ABL fusion transcript by competitive RT-PCR assays following allogeneic stem cell transplantation or therapy with IFN was developed in his lab. Former President of ISEH, EBMT and EHA. Editor of Bone Marrow Transplantation. Member of the Editorial Boards of several leading journals in hematology.
Prof.Dr. A. Gratwohl (Basel, Switzerland): Longstanding experience in clinical and experimental hematopoetic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Former President of EBMT. Member of the acute and chronic leukemia WP of EBMT. Board member of EHA. Chair or Co-Chair of several prospective randomised studies in the field of HSCT. Responsible for co-ordinating retrospective risk factor analyses and prospective studies. Director of the EBMT activity surveys on incidence of HSCT in Europe and trend analyses.
Prof.Dr. J. Hasford (Munich, Germany):
Dr. I.C. Haznedaroglu (Ankara, Turkey): Coordinator of the Turkish CML Study Group.
Prof.Dr. A. Hellmann (Gdansk, Poland): Department of Hematology, Medical University of Gdansk. Referring center for diagnosis and treatment of CML patients for Northern Poland. Expertise includes modern treatment of CML (including allogeneic transplantation) with assessment of minimal residual disease utilizing classical cytogenetic studies, FISH and molecular monitoring of bcr/abl transcript. The current clinical research projects involve application of Glivec followed by BMT for patients in blast crisis and studies of molecular mechanism of Glivec resistance.
Dr. F.X. Mahon (Bordeaux, France): Longstanding experience in clinical and experimental research on CML. Co-worker of Prof. Reiffers, who is responsible for prospective studies on CML in France. The Bordeaux center was choosen as one of the five pilot centers in France for the JACIE accreditation.
